Language Codes (BCP 47)

FloatTranslate identifies translation languages with a defined subset of BCP 47. This page defines the language codes FloatTranslate recognizes and how they resolve.

The FloatTranslate profile

Accepted tags use the shape language[-Script][-REGION], for example en, en-US, zh-Hant-HK, sr-Cyrl-RS, or mn-Mong-CN. Language-code matching is case-insensitive and uses standard BCP 47 casing after resolution.

FloatTranslate resolves a language code in this order:

1. An exact canonical code.
2. An explicit mapping listed below.
3. The most specific canonical parent in the catalog.

Variants, extensions, private-use tags, and values that cannot resolve to a canonical catalog code are not recognized as translation language codes.

Translation services may support different languages. Actual availability depends on your selected translation service.

Use a code for one translation

In a command-aware text entry, put /language-code at the beginning, followed by a space and the source text. For example, /ja Hello translates Hello to Japanese for that request.

This syntax works when you explicitly start Input Field Translation, Translate Selected Text, a clipboard translation, or a translation from text you typed or edited in the Translation Panel. A custom workflow uses it only when its text entry explicitly enables language commands. The result can appear in the full panel, the Mini Panel, or a silent replacement without changing how the command is interpreted.

Automatic translation, OCR or screenshot text, screen text capture, history restore, retry, reverse translation, fallback, and cached results never interpret their text as a language command.

If a code in command position is not recognized, Float Translate stops before contacting a translation service and keeps the original text. Check the code, or add another slash to translate it literally: //en text translates /en text, and ///en text translates //en text.
