Input Field Translation

Input Field Translation is a Pro preset workflow for composing replies in chat apps, email, forms, and other editable fields. It selects all text in the focused field, translates it, and replaces the original without opening the translation panel. It never sends a message or submits a form for you.

  1. Open Settings → Shortcuts.
  2. Search for Input Field Translation.
  3. Click its shortcut field, then press the key combination you want to use.

See Shortcuts if the combination conflicts with another action or cannot be registered by the system.

  1. Click the target input field and write the text in a language you know.
  2. Keep that field focused and press the Input Field Translation shortcut.
  3. Keep the original app and field focused until the original text has been replaced with the translation.
  4. Review the result before you send or submit it.

The built-in preset follows your Alternate target language. To override it for one translation, begin the text with a recognized language code such as /en, /ja, or /ko. An unrecognized code remains part of the text. See Language Codes (BCP 47) for the complete list and resolution rules.

The built-in preset does not lock you to one provider. When its Translation step has no explicit capability selection, Float Translate follows its normal translation routing and uses a translation capability that is available for the current text and languages.

To use a specific provider or model:

  1. Open Workflows and edit Input Field Translation.
  2. Select the Translation step.
  3. Choose the translation capability you want to use. Leave the selection empty to keep following normal translation routing.
  4. Save the workflow.

Input Field Translation writes one translated result back into the field. Use Translate Selected Text when you want to open the translation panel and compare multiple results before replacing anything.

The target must be a focused, editable field whose app allows text selection, reading, and replacement. The preset replaces the entire field, so wait for it to finish before clicking another app or field.

Protected fields, custom editors, and apps that intercept selection or text replacement may not work. Float Translate does not send the translated text, press a submit button, or otherwise complete the surrounding form.

To change only part of an editable field, select that part and use the Silent Selection Translation shortcut. This Pro action replaces the selection without opening the translation panel. The rest of the field stays unchanged.

  • Confirm that the intended field is still focused and editable.
  • Try another field or app. Some apps prevent other software from reading or writing their text.
  • Check that the shortcut is active and does not conflict with another action.
  • Confirm that at least one suitable translation capability is available, or check the capability selected in the workflow’s Translation step.
  • Confirm that the signed-in device has access to Pro features.
  • Use Translate Selected Text and copy the result manually when direct replacement is unavailable.

For translation that starts when you copy or select text, see Automatic Translation.
